The Ecomuseum Pazo of Arxeriz is in the homonymous place of Saviñao council. The field is 35 hectares (86.49 acres) which leads to the slope over the Miño river, in front of one of the most emblematic sites of Ribeira Sacra: the “Cabo do Mundo” (the end of the world). The entire field is organized around a 17th century pazo where the explanatory and exhibition rooms are located.
“The Ecomuseum Pazo of Arxeriz belongs to the Museums Net of Galicia as a Visitable Collection.”
The Ecomuseum Pazo of Arxeriz has to the Museums Net of Galicia since 28th November 2008, as a “Visitable Collection”.
The museum experience began its path in 2004 with the idea of protecting, rescuing, defending, restoring, exhibiting, studying, investigating, and spreading the ethnographic, historic and artistic heritage of Ribeira Sacra. The project starts in a modest manner with two galleries and the idea of growing and making a museum..
The idea, from the beginning, was and is to integrate and combine the exhibition spaces of the rooms, inside the buildings, with the surroundings of the estate, the gardens, the orchard, the adjective constructions, the castro and the forest; with the intention that visitors can alternate the interior visit with the exterior walk. The name Ecomuseum itself comes from the combination of ethnography, history, and nature that is found in Arxeriz.
